Fatal crash south of Prince George claims one victim

Head-on collision this morning involved a pickup and a semi

A head-on collision on Highway 97 near Buckhorn Lake Road, 10 kilometres south of Prince George, proved fatal for one driver Dec. 3.

At approximately 1 a.m., a northbound Ford F150 with three occupants crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a southbound semi-truck, RCMP determined at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was deceased at the scene, while the remaining occupants and the driver of the semi-truck were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation by Prince George’s North District Traffic Services.

The name of the victim has not been released.

The first weekend of December proved deadly on B.C.’s highways, with five other fatal crashes occurring in the province.

Other fatalities occurred on Highway 29 near Chetwynd, on Highway 1 in Lytton, on Highway 1 in North Vancouver, on Highway 99 near Squamish and on Highway 1 west of Salmon Arm. All the crashes involved more than one vehicle, except the Chetwynd collision, which occurred when a lone pickup truck drove off the highway.
