LIFT, a local start-up and networking consortium, is running a Festive Cheer party in hopes of bringing in thousands for the Kus-kus-sum project.
Every year LIFT hosts a Festive Cheer party as a fun way to wrap up their year of events and as a fundraiser for a local charity. This year’s event will be at Match Eatery and Public House/Chances Playtime (Casino). The reciepent will be Project Watershed’s Kus-kus-sum initiative which aims to acquire and restore the property located along Comox Road adjacent to the 17th Street Bridge.
Project Watershed and the Kus-kus-sum project have been chosen by LIFT as the recipients two years in a row.
“We are honoured to be chosen again this year – just in time for our push to raise the money needed to reach our next target,” reports Kathy Haigh, Project Watershed’s fundraising director.
While the cost to acquire and restore the Kus-kus-sum property is estimated at approximately $6.5 million, Project Watershed’s next community target is to raise $35,000 by Dec. 31, most of which could be raised at this event.
“The goal for the event is to beat last year’s fundraising total of $25,000,” states Sonja Jenssen, LIFT co-ordinator.
Things are looking positive as a Secret Santa, who will be matching all funds raised that night, has already come forward. Chances Playtime is generously giving everyone $10 of free play in the casino.
“If you win big remember any donation to Kus-kus-sum will be matched and you will get a tax receipt or sponsorship receipt,” says Caila Holbrook, manager of fundraising and outreach for Project Watershed.
The evening will include welcoming remarks by LIFT, an update on the Kus-kus-sum initiative by Project Watershed, and a “Doing Well by Doing Good” presentation by Lyle Carlstrom of Old House Law and Notary/Holland and Company.
Project Watershed will hold a 50/50 raffle with a twist and extra prizes. The organization will also bring some of their last painted wooden salmon so that they can be sponsored to go up on the fence at Kus-kus-sum.
Tickets are $45 for non-LIFT members, $25 for LIFT members and $20 for LIFT guests (LIFT guest tickets must be purchased at the same time as LIFT member tickets).
Tickets include $10 free play in the casino, a glass of bubbly upon arrival, a safe ride home with Ambassador and music by DJ Chickweed.
