As most Quesnel residents will have noticed, work on the Reid Street Revitalization Project is nearing completion.
City of Quesnel communications clerk Teann Ingram says paving will be completed by the end of October. The majority of Phase II of the project was paved Oct. 1, although the north end of the street remains closed to traffic, as work continues.
Still to complete are landscaping and installing planters and decorative boulders, as well as benches and garbage cans. These should all be in place by the end of next week, says Ingram.
Streetlight poles will be delivered by the end of the third week in October.
When originally discussing the project, Quesnel mayor Bob Simpson told the Observer there was a hard end date of the project, which was Sept. 20.
When asked about whether or not the contractor, Eagle Rock Construction, was fined for going past the deadline, city staff commented via email: “We will not be addressing the hard deadline for the Reid Street project. Those details are between the City and the contractor.”
In August, the City of Quesnel’s director of capital works and infrastructure Chris Coben said the project was running to schedule, but paving would be subject to weather.
