RCMP are still investigating after a fire damaged the Tl’azt’en Public Works building on Mar. 7.

The building is located on Felix Road on the Tache Reserve.

At 1 a.m., RCMP received a call from the Tl’azt’en Fire Chief reporting the volunteer fire department at Tl’azt’en had responded to a fire at the building and extinguished it.

When firefighters arrived, he said windows were breaking and billowing smoke from the fire.

The fire chief reported the fire was suspicious and called the RCMP in to investigate.

RCMP then sent an arson investigator once the structure had cooled enough.

The investigator did conclude the fire was suspicious in nature and the rough estimate is $200,000 in damages to the building.

The fire is still under investigation, and anyone with any information relating to the fire can contact the RCMP at 250-996-8269 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
