The Terrace Fire Department responded to a fire at Terrace Tim Hortons at 4603 Keith Ave. early in the morning on April, 4.
According to Janine Kraft, manager, there were no injuries as a result of the fire, which started at around 3:40 a.m. and was extinguished by 8:00 a.m.
At this time the cause of the fire is still under investigation but Kraft said that evidence is pointing towards an electrical fire that started in the side wall of the restaurant.
“Right now collectively, the ownership and the management of the location are just trying to come up with a plan on how to get staff to work as quickly as possible, assess the damage of the store and see what can be salvaged but from what we’re told the interior’s a total loss, the structure we’re not sure yet,” Kraft said.
Part of that process is rerouting some staff to the Tim Hortons location on Lakelse Ave., and completing an initial cleanup of the site.
Kraft said that there were some public comments on Facebook in the aftermath of the fire were disheartening to read.
“I just want to let the city of Terrace know that people have lost their jobs, and to keep their insensitive comments about this to themselves,” she said.
“We need support, we need the community to rally together because Tim Hortons as a whole regardless of whether it’s a national company, it is locally owned, it employs local people.”
More to come.
