While Summerland will be without water for three days in March, the fire department will be able to fight fires in the community during that time.
The water outage is planned to begin March 3, 2017, beginning at 7 p.m. It is scheduled to end by 7 a.m. on March 6.
Glenn Noble, fire chief for Summerland, said the department is able to cope with a water shutdown of this magnitude.
“We’ll treat any fire like a rural fire,” he said. “All our fire trucks have water on them.”
Water trucks are also able to respond to fires in the community.
Noble said the fire department is doing preliminary work to prepare for the three-day outage.
