An early afternoon blaze at 1452 Sooke River Road completely destroyed a wooden barn. Sooke Fire Rescue responded to the call at about 1:30 in the afternoon on Tuesday, April 22 with response from the Otter Point Volunteer Fire Dpeartment as well.
The cause of the fire was a open burn that got out of control. A neighbour was worried about a boat located close to the property line and the fire, but it did not spread and was confined to the barn area. It took firefighters less than a hour to control and put out the blaze. No injuries were reported to either humans or animals. Traffic on Sooke River Road was slowed slightly by the fire and emergency equipment.
