Mission firefighters responding to a report of a minor fire on Shaw Street Saturday instead found a barn fully engulfed by flames.
According to Mission Fire/Rescue Service Chief Larry Watkinson, once firefighters arrived just before 8 a.m., the residents informed them that the barn was used as a marijuana grow operation.
“We went to a defensive attack,” he said, where no firefighters entered the structure.
Mission RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Shaun Wright said “an unauthorized natural gas line had been used to power a large generator inside the barn. An illegal marijuana grow operation was located in the barn.”
All three stations responded to the call, and the police investigation is continuing.
