Fire destroys legal grow op in Kelowna

A building on the 1600 block of McCurdy Road couldn't be saved from a blaze on Sunday morning

Fire consumed a building on McCurdy Road late Saturday night.

A legal grow op on McCurdy Road in Kelowna was overtaken by fire on Saturday night.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded to call of a 40-foot by 60-foot building in flames on the 1600 block of McCurdy, and was able to extinguish the blaze without incident.

The building’s resident confirmed to fire fighters that the structure was a legal grow op.

Sixteen KFD personnel, with several trucks and equipment, fought the blaze.

The RCMP, an ambulance, Fortis Electric and a city sand truck were also on the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown. A member the Kelowna fire department will conduct an investigation.
