A house fire on the night of Feb. 1 in Fraser Lake caused major damage but left no injuries.

The top floor of the house belonging to Brian Balsillie and his son Tanner Heron was destroyed, along with three cars, family member Tamara De Long told Lakes District News.

The financial losses of the fire were not yet known, and an investigation by an insurance company is ongoing.

“Nothing salvageable in the house by the looks of it,” De Long said.

The family has started a GoFundMe page seeking donations.

Brian and Tanner are staying with family and friends for the time being.

It was suspected that the fire started in the block heater of one of the cars.

It took fire fighters about four hours to bring the blaze under control, said Fraser Lake fire chief Joe Pacheco.

Despite the high winds and -25C temperature, the house materials, including cedar siding made the fire burn very fast, he added.
