Updated details on the Bear Creek wildfire have been released as of Tuesday morning.
Overnight, firefighters from West Kelowna, Peachland, Joe Rich and North Westside worked alongside the B.C. Wildfire Service monitoring the almost 53-hectare Bear Creek wildfire.
“They were busy extinguishing hot spots throughout the fire area. on Monday, under favourable conditions crews made good progress on the blaze achieving 60 per cent containment,” states Central Okanagan Emergency Operations.
The evacuation order for 105 properties in Traders Cove and Bear Creek Provincial Park continues.
“As this is still an active fire, it is not yet safe for the order to be changed,” states COEO.
RCMP members are conducting security patrols throughout the evacuation area.
In addition, the evacuation alert remains in place for 51 properties along Bear Creek Road north of the Parkinson Road intersection including Dougmac, Rose Valley and Petterson Roads, as well as 14 properties in the Pine Point subdivision off Westside Road, north of Traders Cove. These residents should be prepared to leave their home at a moment’s notice.
“People may notice a lot of smoke coming from the active fire area as crews work to fully extinguish the blaze,” states COEO.
Westside Road remains closed between Bear Creek Provincial Park and Traders Cove.
