Firefighters put out porta-potty fire on Bowen Road

Fire crews quickly doused the fire this morning

Nanaimo fire crews quickly doused a fire at a portable toilet on Bowen Road this morning.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to a report of a fire just after 7:30 a.m on Sept. 8 at the 500 block of Bowen Road, according to Brad Wood, city assistant fire chief, and found a porta-potty unit was fully involved by flames.

Wood said firefighters “dumped a tank of water on it.”

“Of course the outhouse was damaged, (but) no damage to any grass or anything like that,” said Wood. “The crews got there quickly and got it out.”

The cause is not yet known, but Wood said the city fire and loss prevention division will look at it.

“They don’t usually just self-ignite,” said Wood.
