Central Saanich firefighters rescued a small dog and two cats from a fire that caused significant damage to a home Friday afternoon.
Firefighters from Central Saanich were called to a fire in a home in the 2500-block of Sloping Pines Road, near the intersection of the Pat Bay Highway and Mount Newton Cross Road, just before noon on Aug. 28, said Capt. Brennan Gummer. Fire crews from North Saanich and Sidney also attended to help douse the flames for a total of 21 firefighters on scene.

When crews arrived, the residents had already left the home and no one was injured, Gummer said.
Sidney/North Saanich RCMP also responded and worked to control crowds and traffic while firefighters managed the nearby structure fire, said Sgt. Colin Cook.
Gummer said the area was clear by 4 p.m. with one truck at the scene as crew members searched for any leftover “hot spots.” An investigation into the cause of the fire is also underway.
