First stop, Vanderhoof: Cops de Cancer Tour de North

Riders of the 2016 Cops for Cancer Tour de North pedals off from Prince George today for the seven-day cycling journey across the region.

The 15th Cops for Cancer Tour de North features 30 riders across the region — Sgt. Svend Nielsen of Vanderhoof RCMP and Catherine Scott of Fraser Lake’s ambulance unit — cycling from Prince George to Prince Rupert over seven days, starting on Sept. 16.

Vanderhoof will be their first stop, as the 30 riders from across the region meet with the community at Riverside Park with live music and barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m.

Day two features the longest distance covered in one day — 175 kilometres — for the tour, as riders cycle to Fort St. James for a community luncheon at noon, continuing to Fraser Lake for a welcome dinner at the local legion branch.

Sgt. Svend Nielsen of Vanderhoof RCMP and Catherine Scott of Fraser Lake’s ambulance unit are the riders representing the area.
