Longtime resident Georgina DuBois was an avid proponent for fitness in the Valley up until her passing in October 2011. As a member of the Valley Fitness Centre’s board of directors and a former president, DuBois was a huge part in bringing the centre to where it is today. As such, the decision has been made to honour her memory by naming the aerobics wing after her in a ceremony set for May 11 at 12:30 p.m. at the centre’s location on 14th Street.
“Without her input and effort, we probably wouldn’t exist today,” Helen Breau, current manager of the fitness centre explained. “She was a big mentor for me and lots of other people on the board… I’m really proud that she is going to be honoured in that way. We all felt that something really important needed to be dedicated to her because she was such a big part of the centre.”
The ceremony on May 11 will feature the unveiling of a special memorial piece in her honour and include a tea party for friends, family and colleagues to chat and relax.
“I’m pretty honoured,” husband Bill DuBois said. “Without her, I don’t think the Fitness Centre would have made it — she put her heart and soul into it. The whole family is really honoured.”
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP in advance by contacting DuBois at the centre at (250) 342-2131.
