Food waste doesn’t take a holiday: Here’s what Food Connect is up to

The food shop will be at Community Centre, Zala's parking lot, and the Revelstoke Mountain Resort

  • Dec. 19, 2018 12:00 a.m.

Food Connect will be zipping around Revelstoke this Christmas in their new refrigerated van.

Throughout the year, Food Connect picks up food seven days per week from local food retailers and distributes to over 18 non-profit programs/ agencies in Revelstoke including the Food Bank, School Breakfast Programs, and the Women’s Shelter. As Community Connections and the majority of our partnering agencies are closed during this time, Food Connect will continue to distribute food by opening up their program to the public in an attempt to ensure we continue our mandate of keeping food out of the landfill and diverting it into the hands of our community members instead.

From Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, Food Connect will be setting up a Pop Up Food Stop at various locations throughout town. Anyone is welcome to access the free food, which is provided as an awareness campaign to reducing food waste in our community plus an opportunity for people to learn more about our program.

The Food Stop will be set up between the Community Centre, Zala’s parking lot, and at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Come say hi to our friendly team and pick up some extra food to share with your families over the Holidays!

Here is where/when to find them:

Dec. 26, 29, Jan. 1 at Community Centre from 2 to 3 p.m.

Dec. 27, 30 at Revelstoke Mountain Resort from 2 to 3 p.m.

Dec. 28, 31 at Zala’s parking lot from 2 to 3 p.m.

Community Connections would like to remind readers that their services and programs are closed from December 24 and we will resume office hours on January 2, 2019.
