SURREY — Video footage depicting a police chase involving a motorcyclist driving down a busy Walmart stairwell has been leaked online.

The video comes weeks after The Now first reported on the incident, which took place at the Guildford Town Centre.

The footage, taken from security and police vehicle cameras, appeared on LiveLeak, a website where users can anonymously upload video footage.

In it, a motorcyclist is shown being chased by Surrey RCMP through the Guildford area. The man then pulls into the top of the Guildford Town Centre Walmart’s stairwell and proceeds to drive down the escalator, with an officer following on foot.

The driver then exits the stairwell in front of the store’s entrance, narrowly missing a mother and child, before taking off, at which point an officer in a helicopter above says, "Holy s**t!"

The footage shows the chase continuing into the Tynehead area, where the motorcyclist uses pedestrian overpasses and bridges to evade police vehicles, forcing pedestrians to quickly move out of the way.

The suspect was last spotted in the Langley and Surrey border area around 192nd Street and 96th Avenue. No injuries were reported. The motorcycle, with a stolen plate, was later found dumped in a wooded area in North Surrey.

Investigators are still reviewing security footage and following up with witnesses to identify the suspect, who is described as a white man in his 40s.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
