Former Esso site on Nelson Avenue to be sold

Imperial Oil says remediation work is underway

The former site of an Esso gas station on Nelson Avenue is under remediation and will eventually be sold.

A spokesperson for Imperial Oil Limited, which owns Esso-brand stations, told the Star that soil is currently being removed and replaced with clean backfill at 701 Nelson Ave.

They expect the work to be completed by the end of the year.

That will be followed by an assessment period and an application to the province for a certificate of compliance, after which the company will put the property up for sale.

The Esso was shut down in 2010 after Imperial Oil declined to renew an operating contract due to aging equipment. The site has remained empty ever since.
