A former town councillor has taken the reins of the Princeton and District Museum and Historical Society.
Kim Maynard, who previously served on the museum board as a council representative, was elected at the body’s annual general meeting in March.
He defeated Brenda Gould, who was serving as acting president, in a 26 to 11 vote.
Maynard said one of his priorities will be to continue to work towards preserving artifacts.
“I’m very concerned about our history in this community. I really want to make sure that it is preserved. Often objects are the only real connection to the past.”
Maynard said that due to factors like humidity, old clothing and documents have already been damaged, “and of course all of these old, old things are deteriorating on their own as well.”

For the past several years the museum board has annually pressed town council for an increase in funding, up from $26,000 per year, in order to pay a full time manager. Maynard hopes to see that goal realized.
“I’m pretty sure [our manager] works more than the 20 hours a week he’s paid for and he’s done an amazing job,” said Maynard.

Exploring new opportunities for funding, programming and the possibility of summer camps are also on the new president’s mind.
“All of these things, the board has to discuss as a group.”
