A former Victoria High School teacher who was handed a four-month community jail sentence three years ago for stalking two women has agreed to never teach in a public or private school in B.C. again.

The B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation recently released a consent resolution agreement signed by Francesco Gabriel Canacari, who admits his actions were “conduct unbecoming a teacher” and professional misconduct.

In October 2010, Canacari signed an agreement not to teach school-age children until the conclusion of his trial for three offences that included criminal harassment and unlawfully entering the homes of two women he briefly dated.

During his June 2013 trial, the court heard the 46-year-old broke into the two women’s apartments, taking items and sending harassing phone calls and emails.

The court also heard Canacari had asked a female student in the class he was teaching at the high school to send a text on her cell phone to one of the women, which she did. Canacari then told the student to erase the number and messages from her cell phone.

Canacari was sentenced to a four-month jail sentence in the community, followed by two years of probation. He was also ordered to attend counseling and not have any contact with either of the women or specified witnesses at the trial.

Canacari appealed his conviction, but it was dismissed in November 2015. That same year he also pleaded guilty to forging documents that were submitted to his sentencing supervisor, resulting in another three month conditional sentence.

Prior to coming to Victoria, Canacari worked as a school administrator in Ontario. He was arrested at Victoria High School on June 16, 2010.
