A forum at Kwalikum Secondary this Sunday will address the issue of possible school closures in light of a recent school board decision to postpone a decision on the subject.
Hosted by the Oceanside Communities for Quality Education, the day-long forum called “Why close a great school?” will include a mix of round table workshop, open mic and invited speaker portions.
They will talk about the direction of education and what the public wants and address a range of topics.
They have two guest speakers in the morning, Scott Clark and Jessica Van der Veen who have dealt with school closure issues on the level of provincial politics.
Clark is an urban aboriginal advocate from the Alliance of Parents and Partners to Lobby for Education (APPLE) and Jessica Van der Veen founded Let’s Agree Not to Dispose of Schools (LANDS) and is currently on the NDP executive for Oak Bay-Gordon Head.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. for the forum which begins at 9:30 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. People are invited for the whole day or to drop-in for a portion. Check www.OceansideEd.com or e-mail schoolinfo@shaw.ca for more information.
