Fraser Cascade schools closed again today due to weather

Schools in Hope, Agassiz, Harrison closed for the third day this week

UPDATE: Hope secondary school will be open for students to come retrieve homework and study materials until 3 p.m. on Thursday, in preparation for final exams next week.

Thursday is another snow day for students in the Fraser Cascade school district.

The district announced the snow day early in the morning via their website and social media pages.

The schools were also closed on Monday and Wednesday due to extreme winter weather in the area, and a budget committee meeting was cancelled on Monday. Schools will also be closed to students on Friday, Jan. 17, for a non-instructional day.

Many Fraser Cascade schools are in rural or mountainous areas, stretching from Boston Bar to Hope, and including Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs.

The area is under an Arctic outflow warning issued by Environment Canada, and has experienced heavy snow fall and icy road conditions throughout the week.

Superintendent Dr. Karen Nelson noted earlier this week that despite the frigid temperatures (reaching -21C at times with the wind chill), the district staff has done a good job of keeping their property well maintained.

“A huge thank you to our maintenance staff for working tirelessly to ensure all facilities are well-maintained for students and staff during the winter months,” she tweeted, along with photos of cleared school parking lots.
