Fraser Youth Pride is being celebrated today at Rotary Stadium (32470 Haida Drive).
The event is hosted by the Fraser Valley Youth Society (FVYS).
The “Walk with Pride” began at 12:30, with approximately 100 participants travelling south on Trethewey Street, east on South Fraser Way, north on Garden Street, west on George Ferguson Way and then north on Trethewey Street.
After the walk, which looped back to Rotary Stadium, the day continues with festivities until 5 p.m.
Youth performances will be showcased, and people are invited to dance and enjoy the music.
Pride souvenirs will be available for sale before and after the walk.
Donations will be accepted, and all proceeds from the event will support drop-in programs in Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack and help send FVYS youth to summer camps, conferences and events.
Becca Hays, president of the FVYS board of directors, said the event is meant “to bring community together and show support to our youth.”
“Diversity should not be shamed; rather it should be celebrated. This is the message we send to the youth that attend our drop-ins each week and we are happy to bring this message to the Fraser Valley,” Hays added.
