Steven Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations stopped by in town last Wednesday to officially open the FrontCounter BC office at the Vanderhoof forestry building.
The new service which was also opened in Fort St. James earlier the same day, provides a point of contact for people wanting to deal with a number of natural resource ministries and agencies. Its aim is to improve natural resource-related ministry services, particularly in rural communities.
Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad and Mayor Gerry Thiessen also attended the opening.
“When we heard that this opportunity was going to come to our community and that we would have a FrontCounter office here it meant a lot to the sustainability of our community – to have this opportunity here is really important to the longevity of our community,” said Thiessen.
In a speech from Minister Thomson, he highlighted the importance of the resource sector …
“It’s a critical part of the economy and of the province and we want to make sure we have the processes and the systems in place that help support that in communities,” he said.
