A 28-year-old Fruitvale man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle accident in Fruitvale early Saturday.

Fire and ambulance responded to a call at nearly 1 a.m. at the top of Nine Mile Road, where the fatal accident occurred. Driver Tyler Tjader rolled his truck and was pronounced deceased at the scene but his passenger walked away from the accident, according to RCMP.

“He was just a young guy, it’s just a tragedy,” said Cpl. Darryl Orr of the Trail and Greater District Detachment.

“It looked like the truck had been taken off road, and somehow that played a contributing factor,” he explained.

Trail RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the incident, which is a rare one on Orr’s account.

“An off-roading accident in the winter, in my experience, is somewhat rare,” he added. “You hear about people getting into Ski-Doo accidents but off-road vehicles at this time of year, you don’t hear much of that.”
