Three schools in School District 71 will be able to proceed with routine capital projects, thanks to $463,900 in provincial funding. These improvements will help provide healthy, safe and modern learning environments.
· Lake Trail Secondary School: Electrical upgrade. Cost $127,000. Replacement of the direct digital control in the boiler system will create estimated energy savings of 32 tonnes per year with estimated operating savings of $8,000 per year.
· Courtenay Elementary School: Building cladding and window replacement. Cost: $170,100. New rain screen cladding will be installed and windows replaced improving energy efficiency and reducing the chance of mold and water leakage.
· Mark Isfeld Secondary School: Electrical upgrade. Cost: $166,800. Replacement of the direct digital control in the boiler system will create estimated energy savings of 32 tonnes per year with estimated operating savings of $8,000 per year.
Work is expected to begin this year and finish by spring 2016.
“By continuing to invest in our schools, we are extending their useful life and creating a healthier and modern learning environment,” Comox Valley MLA Don McRae said. “These projects will help ensure our schools operate as efficiently as possible while also saving money.”
These projects were approved under the Province’s Routine Capital Program. Projects were chosen based on need, priority, and supporting student learning.
