Fundraising to be done ‘a bit differently’ with new foundation

The May 17 campaign kickoff is 2 p.m. at the Cheam Leisure Centre.

Fundraising for community health projects is going to be done “a bit differently” by the new Chilliwack Hospital and Health Care Foundation, says Donna Dixson.

The foundation is announcing its first community health campaign on May 17, and Dixson, CHHCF’s community relations director, said there will be some “great public relations opportunities for sponsors.”

“Our first campaign has a number of different objectives, and I can’t give too much away, but it’s going to be very visible,” she said.

The theme of the campaign is also “top secret,” she said, but cryptically added that confiding that much is also a clue.

Unlike most fundraising campaigns, Dixson said the CHHCF is asking sponsors to become partners with the foundation in community health, not simply contributors.

“We want to align ourselves with people who share our passion for community health,” she said. “We want them to be really a part of what we’re doing.”

The foundation’s role is to “provide the inspiration, education, facilitation and resources to enable a healthier community,” Dixson said. “This event is going to give us a great start.”

High-profile campaign brochures will feature both the goal of community health and the sponsor.

Sponsorships brochures and posters are still available, and there’s a “fundraising item” that’s so far still “classified” information that will be sold at several locations in Chilliwack.

Free advertising for sponsors and other donors is also being offered on the CHHCF website.

The May 17 campaign kickoff is open to the public and starts at 2 p.m. at the Cheam Leisure Centre.
