The District of Vanderhoof have set aside more than $300,000 to pay for the purchase of a new Water Master fire truck.
The purpose of the truck is to provide water to the scene of the fire quickly and efficiently. This will allow the Vanderhoof fire department to deliver a better service to those within the fire protection zone that do not have fire hydrants.
The truck features a self-filling vacuum system which enabled the truck to collect 3,000 gallons of water in three minutes and release it into a temporary holding tank within four minutes.
The tanker will be able to self-fill from a water source, including ponds, rivers, lakes, ditches and swimming pools.
The majority of the funds for the new truck will come from Fire Truck Reserves ($260,000). A further $40,000 will be allocated from from the 2012 Fire Truck Reserve Allocation and $2,750 will be allocated from 2012 taxation.
