With $70,000 raised, a feasibility study for a CT scanner at Mission Memorial Hospital will soon be underway.
Mission All Together for Healthcare (MATH) and the Fraser Valley Healthcare Foundation made the announcement in front of the hospital’s doors on Feb. 25.
“Hours can be spent trying to access a scan for patients and precious diagnostic time is lost which can be critical to life and death,” a press release from MATH says. “We need one urgently.”
The study will be completed in mid March, but there is still a long fundraising road ahead. Communities under Fraser Health have typically had to raise $1 million to get theirs.
Ken Selvaraja and his business Lanka Jewels held a raffle for a $6,000 pendant they donated and raised $39,000 for the study. The Christine Morrison Fund donated $10,000, and individual donations were made and the foundation raised the rest through the November 2020 Gala.
“Rural healthcare should be tremendously improved,” Selvaraja said, adding Mission is continuing to grow and more strain will be put on the hospital as the baby boomers age.

CT scanners are a diagnostic medical tool critical for emergency care, inpatient hospital care and outpatient diagnosis. Mission Memorial Hospital is the only hospital west of Hope without one on site
The organizations are asking the community to start making donations, whether large or small, to www.mathorg.ca. Fraser Valley Healthcare Foundation will provide receipts.
