Platinum Blonde and Big Sugar will headline the 2016 A&W Music Festival during the Funtastic Slo-Pitch Tournament at the Vernon Army Camp June 30 to July 2.
Funtastic announced its music lineup with a live party announcement Friday at the Green Pub.
The headliners will be joined by several local and tribute bands for the July long weekend festivities.
Platinum Blonde has put out four albums that have collectively gone platinum seven times over and have garnered multiple Juno Award nominations. The Toronto band has been inducted into the Music and Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame.
Big Sugar frontman Gordie Johnson and his Rasta brethren churn out their unique blend of roots-rock-reggae with double neck guitars and dreadlocks flying through the air. It’s album Calling All The Youth tops a platinum recording career that spans more than 20 years.
Opening night June 30 will feature local bands Cosmic Brew, Hog Wild and The Young’Uns.
Friday, July 1, will be Canada Day Tribute Night featuring Armstrong cover band Dirt Road Road Kings, U4 – a salute to U2, and The Hip Show, a tribute to Canadian icons The Tragically Hip.
Local bands The Dirt and Shawn Lightfoot Band take the stage Saturday night ahead of Platinum Blonde and Big Sugar.
Tickets for the festival went on sale Friday via the Funtastic website, www.funtasticsports.ca.
Proceeds go towards the Funtastic Community Grant Program which has, to date, given back more than $1.7 million to local non-profit sports groups.
