Residents in north Langley will have another opportunity for input on truck route changes.
Township council voted 8-1 on Monday night to hold a public hearing when the bylaw to amend the Master Transportation Plan truck routes comes to council for approval sometime in the future.
This motion, spearheaded by Coun. Kim Richter, follows a May 8 decision to initiate an application to TransLink to add a portion of 216 Street from Highway 1 to 88 Avenue as a truck route.
While that information has already been sent to TransLink for input, it could take as long as six months to a year for it to come back, Mark Bakken, Township CAO said.
Richter also requested that council reverse that May 8 decision, and inform TransLink that this particular stretch of road will be removed from the MRN Road Network, however both were ruled out of order.
Councillors Michelle Sparrow, Blair Whitmarsh, Angie Quaale and Petrina Arnason all expressed support for the motion, and for giving the public another opportunity to express their concerns.
Coun. Charlie Fox also requested that copies of the feedback sheets from a public information session in June be distributed to council.
Coun. Bob Long, however, cautioned council about making a decision now on bylaws they will not see enacted for another year. He also warned that they could be building “false expectations,” as the project is a provincial one, and not in their control. He cast the lone vote against the public hearing.
