A new group is emerging to maintain and run the Sunshine Community Garden in Chilliwack.
A garden potluck to start the conversation about it is set for Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at the gardens on Sunshine Drive.
“All Sunshine Community gardeners and individuals interested in the well being and continued creation and maintenance of the garden are welcome to gather for a potluck and a conversation about the emergence of a new group to manage the continuing governance and operation of the garden,” wrote organizers about the Aug. 1 event on the Facebook page devoted to the gardens.
Everyone is asked to bring a cold or hot dish to share with the group, something to sit on like a chair or a blanket, utensils, and dishes.
In the wake of the success of the Sunshine Community Garden this year, it has outgrown its status as a subcommittee of Food Matters Chilliwack, so they’ve created a distinct group.
The next month will see some changes to the contact information and web presence of the garden group. Check out www.foodmatterschilliwack.com and www.facebook.com/sunshine.communitygarden for details.
“We are amazed with how quickly the community of Chilliwack has come together and supported all of these local food initiatives,” says Jason Delisle of the Sunshine Community Garden group. “I am excited to see these two groups continue to passionately connect people and food and look forward to their continued growth.”
Both organizations will be looking for new members to help coordinate activities and events.
