Students at Ocean Grove Elementary got out of class early on Wednesday afternoon following a gas line break.
Everyone was safely evacuated and students were back in school on Thursday.
According to information posted on the school district’s website, a work crew was preparing the ground for a new portable classroom when the natural gas line was hit.
They had apparently forgotten the cardinal rule of excavation: Call before you dig.
