Ladysmith police briefs from March 8 to March 14. Information provided by Ladysmith RCMP
Theft:
A few gallons of gas were stolen from a boat belonging to Western Forest Products on March 8. As the suspects were stealing the 30-40 gallons of fuel, they opened up a log boom almost causing a log jam spillage into Ladysmith harbour.A purse was stolen from inside a vehicle parked along Spruston Road on March 8.A generator was stolen from the Maplewood Way area on March 11.A large canoe was stolen from a cottage along Dogwood Road on March 14.
Motor vehicle incident:
A pickup truck was rear-ended by a car while attempting an illegal U-turn by the airport on the Trans Canada Highway on March 9. The driver of the car sustained minor injuries and the pick up driver was issued a ticket for unsafe turning.Several people were injured and transported to the hospital after a two-car accident at Timberlands Road and the Trans Canada Highway on March 11. The investigation is ongoing. A woman lost control turning onto the Trans Canada Highway from Brenton Paige Road on March 14. She hit the meridian. She was not hurt but was issued a ticket for speeding relative to conditions and improper licensing.
Fire:
A dog and her puppies died in a barn fire on Carmichael Road on March 10. The cause of the fire is undetermined but there’s no indication of foul play.
Mischief:
A male was removed without incident by RCMP when they found him living on another person’s barge in the dogpatch in Ladysmith’s harbour on March 10.A woman who’s vehicle was impounded for seven days for speeding on the Trans Canada Highway, took her vehicle from the compound lot illegally on March 11. The vehicle was returned by the woman and police are seeking charges of obstruction.There was complaint of children knocking on windows at the Lodge on 4th on March 11. The knocking was disturbing the senior residents. When police attended the children were already gone.Two people were arrested when police were granted a search warrant for a Ladysmith residence on March 14. They were released but charges of theft of electricity and possession of counterfeit money are being considered.
