After more than a decade of organizing the Golden Ski Swap and Golden Summer Gear Swap, The Gentlemen’s Leisure Club of Golden is looking to give these legendary events to another group in town.
These events can be a great fundraiser, a means to gather awareness and support for a group, and a great community event to help foster culture and participation in a sport. Thousands of people in Golden have been able to afford to participate in various sports because of the gear available at these swaps and The Gentlemen’s Leisure Club doesn’t want the community to lose that.
Started in 2009, the Golden Ski Swap, held in November every year, has grown to become the greatest ski swap in Canada. It is the most affordable ski swap, it has the best selection of freeride gear, and more than $100,000 worth of gear is entered every year with an exceptionally high sell through rate at nearly 60 per cent. One thousand keen snow enthusiasts spend the day shopping and an established group of businesses occupy half the floor space to sell new gear or to promote their clubs.
The Golden Summer Gear Swap started in 2012 as the Golden Bike Swap and has been held every May since. While it still sees well over 100 bikes for sale, it includes all summer activities and gear now and well over 500 people visiting the show. Just like the Ski Swap, the Summer Gear Swap has booths from various businesses selling new gear and organizations promoting themselves. Since 2019, the farmer’s market has operated in conjunction with the Summer Gear Swap.
