It’s going to be a big weekend for Summerland, as the annual Action Festival takes over the community from June 1 to 3.
Along with it comes the 36th annual Giant’s Head Run and Man of Steel Triathlon on June 2.
The Man of Steel Triathlon has its three disciplines scheduled throughout the day. The bike portion starts at at 7 a.m at the Badminton Hall, looping around Giant’s Head Mountain. The swim is scheduled from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the Summerland Aquatic Centre. The final running leg of the triathlon joins in with the annual Giant’s Head Run. It is a kickoff to the triathlon season and many people enjoy the comfort of pool setting, especially young triathletes just starting their careers.
Join in on the community fun with the Giant’s Head Run. Athletes can choose between either the five or 10-kilometre route. The race will begin outside the Summerland Aquatic Centre at 6 p.m. and is open to those who want to race, run, walk or stroll. Official results will be available from Sports Stat www.sportstats.ca, which will also be posted at www.summerland.ca
After the race, the Summerland Aquatic Centre will be hosting a free post-race swim from 6:15-7:30 p.m. Post-race awards and prizes will take place at 7:30 p.m at the Memorial Park bandshell.
