The City of Nanaimo has put its name up in big letters for all to see.
A new permanent art piece was installed Thursday, April 29, as five-foot-tall letters spelling out ‘Nanaimo’ were bolted down at Maffeo Sutton Park’s Sway’ A’ Lana Lagoon.
Sign installers from Monarch Structures in Richmond handled the installation of the piece, which cost the city a little over $50,000.
A City of Nanaimo press release Friday, April 30, called the sign a new “landmark” attraction on the downtown waterfront.
“The colourful ‘O’ can mean different things to different people. For example, the different colours in the ‘O’ represent the diversity of the 100,000-plus voices who have shaped and continue to shape our spectacular city,” the release noted. “It also represents an inclusive Nanaimo, full of opportunity for generations to come.”
