Friends of Dorothy Littau — described as a “beloved and ever-present force in South Cowichan schools” — have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support her after she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer last month.
Littau is an involved parent and volunteer at the schools attended by her three daughters, a member of the George Bonner PAC, a leader in Girl Guides of Canada, and an education assistant at Frances Kelsey Secondary. Littau and her husband, Craig, and daughters Jordanna, Casey and Bree moved to the Cowichan Valley from Saskatchewan seven years ago. She was diagnosed in April with colon metastatic adenocarcinoma, which will require chemotherapy and dialysis to extend her life.
In addition to the conventional treatment, Littau also wants to explore alternate therapies that are not covered by her health plan, and friends have set up the GoFundMe account to help pay for the treatment and medication, and help cover for lost income.
“This is a serious health situation, and we’d like to start providing funds to the Littau family as soon as possible,” the blurb on the page reads. “Please note that all funds will be moved into an account that only Dorothy and Craig can access.”
