Golden’s emergency service organizations teamed up this past weekend for a co-ordinated training event.
Hosted by the Golden and Area Emergency Management Program, members from the RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, the Golden Fire Department, Nicholson Fire Department, Golden and District Search and Rescue, staff from the Golden Hospital, and members of the Emergency Operation Centre, dealt with an MCI (a mass casualty incident) scenario.
“This was a great opportunity for all agencies to work together to prepare for a large scale response within the community,” said Kyle Hale, emergency program co-ordinator. “A big thank you to all who participated but especially to our volunteer subjects, United Towing and Alpine Helicopters.”
The scenario involved a three-vehicle collision over a large and steep embankment. There were 14 subjects: two black (deceased), three red (high priority), three yellow (low priority) and several green (able to walk away from the scene).
Emergency services took care of the scene, and the hospital staff set up a mock hospital on site to triage patients.
“All in all I’d say there were at least 40 people participating,” said Ron Oszust, unit chief for BC Ambulance. “It really shows the resources our community has.”
This is the first time in more than 10 years there has been a coordinated, multi-agency emergency response scenario of this scale in Golden.
