The Golden Fire Department was busy this weekend responding to calls, which included a fire that burned two mobile homes west of Golden.
The duty officer at the Golden Fire Department responded to a report of a fire west of Golden on Saturday evening at 10:22 p.m.
He found a mobile home on fire at 620 Trans Canada Highway, which eventually spread to a second adjacent home, explained fire Chief Dave Balding.
Golden Fire Rescue was unable to respond to suppress the structure fires because the location was outside the fire protection district. A response was requested from the B.C. Forest Service, however they were unable to comply.
“They authorized us to send one engine to ensure the fire did not spread to wildland fuels,” Balding explained, adding that the fire department responded with a crew and one engine at 11:30 p.m. for approximately two hours.
The fire department also responded to a lift assist request from BC Ambulance Service on Sunday morning.
Later that evening at approximately 5 p.m., the fire department attended a report of smoke at Subway on the Trans Canada Highway.
The smoke was coming from the building’s electrical equipment, and after ensuring all occupants were clear of the building, BC Hydro was called to disconnect the electrical service.
“A crew remained on site until their arrival,” Balding said.
Shortly after 7 p.m., the department responded to a report of alarms activated at McDonald’s, where it was discovered that a customer had inadvertantly activated a pull station for the alarm system.
On Monday morning at 6:30 a.m., the fire department received a call to the Golden Municipal Airport for a report of alarms activated, which was caused by burned food.
The majority of the calls were handled while Cpt. Mike Pecora, training officer Steve Morisson and Balding were in Calgary participating in the 2018 Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge.
