The Anti-Grinch project had another successful year, cooking 18 dinners on Christmas Eve for families in need around the holidays.
Put on by the Interact club, the project has local kids come together on December 24 to help lift spirits for those who need a boost around a time of year that can be hard for many.
“I feel that this year was a large success,” said Georgia Gale, vice-president of the Interact club. “We got more nominations this year, and I think that’s because we reworded it to just those who need a lift.”
Christmas Eve was a busy day for the club, who had two shifts, one from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m., and another from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. to ensure that all the meals were cooked and delivered.
While it was a long day, the Interact club had plenty of volunteers to help them get through. With helpers in the kitchen, as well as drivers to take them across Golden to deliver not only dinners, but also gifts to the children of the families they were helping, the project ran as smoothly as possible.
The club is incredibly thankful for the work that they get to do in the community, and the support they receive in order to continue to make a difference in the community. They look forward to continuing to grow the project with this support in years to come.
“We are so thankful to our donors and sponsors,” said Gale. “We couldn’t have done it without all the support we get.”
For next year, the club will be looking to build off of this year’s success and improve a couple of things in order to make sure that the Anti-Grinch project continues to grow. They’ll be looking for donations earlier next year, and will continue to advertise in the community in order to maximize the amount of nominations they get.
While Christmas may be over for this year, the Interact club is not done just yet. They’ll also be doing a Christmas tree pick up on January 4 as a fundraiser. Payment can be made in the form of a donation in the amount of the donors choosing.
“We’re doing this to give back to the community,” said Gale. “In previous years people leave their tree out with money, but sometimes someone takes the money before we can get to it. If you’re going to do this, make sure it’s clear, but hide it well!”
