Golden RCMP report, missing person

Golden RCMP have received information regarding a missing person.

  • Jun. 14, 2011 5:00 a.m.

• On June 10, 2011 at approximately 4:30 p.m., a small two seater fixed Quickie air plane had to complete an emergency landing on the TransCanada Highway, four KM west of Field BC. The emergency landing was a result of engine failure. The 60 year old pilot, bound for Cochrane, Alb, touched down on the highway then crashed into the ditch. The pilot was trapped in the cockput of the plane and had to be removed by Field Fire Rescue. Presently the pilot is en route to Foot Hills Hospital via STARS. The pilot was conscious and talking when he left the scene.

At this time the name of the pilot is not being released.

RCMP are investigating the cause of this crash.

• Golden RCMP are requesting the assistance of the public in locating a local Golden resident. Lori Benson went missing on the early morning of June 9, 2011. She was last seen at approximately 230 a.m. near the Kicking Horse River bridge across from the Mount 7 Taxi company. Lori Benson is 56 years old, 5 feet, 140 lbs, with short blonde hair and was wearing a white/blue gown and a white jacket with a hood. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Golden RCMP, 250-344-2221.

•  June 5, 2011, 2:29 p.m. Golden RCMP and BC Ambulance were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival it was discovered that the two riders were deceased, one male and one female, both in their fifties and believed to be from Alberta.

RCMP were able to confirm at this time that the motorcycle was southbound on Highway 95 near Parson at the time of the collision when the motorcycle failed to negotiate a counter clockwise curve and went off road right and down a slight embankment.

The BC Coroners service attended along with East Trans-Canada Traffic Services Members and an RCMP collision analyst.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and no names can be released, pending next of kin notification.

• On May 30, 2011, shortly before 6a.m., Golden RCMP and Golden Fire Department responded to a fire on 5th Street South in Golden. A shed located at the rear of a property adjacent to the walking path along the Kicking Horse Ricer, had caught fire. The cause of the fire is suspicious and police are asking that anyone with information regarding the incident call the Golden RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
