Golden Secondary School students rallied together today, May 3, to speak up about climate change action.
A group of around 12 students took to the streets with chants and signs, calling on Golden and the world to reduce carbon emissions and make eco-friendly choices.
The protest was inspired by Sweden’s 15-year-old Greta Thunberg, who has been making waves across the world with her speeches for climate activism.
“There is no planet B,” some signs read at the protest in Golden. Thousands of students across the province participated in walk-out strikes to address climate change. Students in major cities took to legislature in Victoria and the Vancouver Art Gallery to rally.
The group of students shouting and carrying signs were small, but mighty. One of the only ways to have their voices heard, GSS student Mara Parkinson said, is for students in all small towns to start speaking up.
The students hope that their show of protest will get more people thinking about climate action.
