Whitetooth Mountain Bistro had to temporarily shut its doors this weekend after what they called a ‘minor COVID exposure incident”.
A statement from the Bistro, which was shared online through social media platforms, announced that an individual that had tested positive for COVID-19 was on the premises for less than 15 minutes. The statement continued that according to health authorities, 15 minutes is not long enough to classify as an ‘exposure’.
Interactions of less than 15 minutes (cumulative) are generally not considered as close contact according to the BC CDC.
“The health and safety of our guests and employees is our number one priority and we would rather err on the side of caution for everyone’s well-being,” read the statement.
The individual in question received their positive test result while on the premise, according to a further comment from the Bistro.
Patients waiting for test results in B.C. are required to self-isolate while they wait for results, according to the BC CDC.
“Thank you for the support we really appreciate it and definitley need in times like these,” read a comment on Facebook from Whitetooth Mountain Bistro.
“We are hoping to reopen in the next few days when things are 100 per cent safe for everyone.”
After the individual left the premises, the restaurant was immediately closed for thorough sanitization of all surfaces, in addition to the usual sanitization procedures that have been implemented since Phase 2.
All employees who may have been in contact with the individual are self-isolating while awaiting test results. The Bistro also asks that anyone who was in the Whitetooth Bistro on Saturday, Oct. 10 between 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms.
Recommendations from the CDC for those who have come in contact with an individual who has come in contact with a positive individual for less or around 15 minutes, within six feet of distance, are to self-isolate and maintain social distance at all times.
It is recommended to check temperature twice a day while self-monitoring for symptoms and to watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath or other symptoms of COVID-19.
If symptoms develop, follow provincial health guidelines and seek a test.
