Another weekend is upon us and the weather outlook appears to be a mix of cloud and sun, highs of 12C and lows of 4C.
And here’s another concept to wrap your head around—it’s only 63 days until Christmas!
Here are some stories that you might have missed today. Enjoy the read:
1) The killer of Kelowna woman Aimee Parkes saw his second degree murder trial come to an end quickly earlier this week after the Crown and his lawyer agreed to a guilty plea to manslaughter. Today, Ryan Quigley was sentenced to 12 years in prison, less time already served.
2) It was the ceremonial passing of the key earlier today as the new headquarters for the Interior Health staff in downtown Kelowna was officially unveiled. The $46 milliion new digs, called the Community Health and Services Centre, will start seeing health care services staff moving into their new offices, with clients expected to start walking in the doors by December.
3) If you want to read some of the opinions of your fellow Central Okanagan residents, check out the new online feature on our website, Letters, we get letters, a compilation of what people have been writing about this week.
4) On the national scene, check out this story about Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr being forced to fess up that the feds will be approving new oil pipelines at a climate conference in Ottawa. Carr said the policy decisions pending are likely to upset some Canadians, adding, “Our view is we use the wealth of the old economy to finance the new energy economy.” And the politicians just keep on spinning.
5) And the master comedy intruder himself, Bill Murray is trending on Facebook today after he crashed a White House briefing to declare his beloved Chicago Cubs will reach the World Series. Murray said he Cubs hitters will best Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw in Game 6 of the National League final on Saturday. Cubs lead the series 3-2. Whoever wins will play Cleveland Indians in the World Series.
Have a great weekend everyone!
