Fire in the night: You weren’t the only one who thought Peachland was having a full-fledged forest fire in November. The Kelowna Fire Department issued a terse statement at 5:30 last night that a controlled burn was being conducted above Peachland.
“Kelowna fire dispatch is being overwhelmed with 911 calls reporting this incident,” platoon captain Tim Light said in the statement asking media to spread the word out.
And was the uproar of concern a surprise to them?
1. Weather outlook: We’ll see glimpse of the sun throughout the day and a few sprinkles in the late afternoon. Big White is generously dusted with snow this morning, so expect the same thing when you drive the mountain passes.
2. Stories for today: The Salvation Army’s annual Kettle Campaign is in full swing. Give generously when you see volunteers manning the kettles. They will be at major retail outlets in the days to come.
3. Money for housing: Kelowna will be getting an infusion of B.C. dollars to build affordable housing. Four local organizations will split $18.4 million in capital funding for new housing projects that will provide safe, affordable homes for people with low to moderate incomes.

Something to do today: Elton John’s great classics, with a full orchestra back-up. Peter Brennan’s Jeans ’n Classics guitar-driven band performs tonight in Kelowna with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.
