Anyone plugging a parking meter in Vernon will get an additional five minutes of time.
On Monday, council approved the modification of the parking meter grace period to five minutes (it is currently two minutes).
“People want the ability to run into a store to get change to plug the meter,” said Coun. Brian Quiring, who has been concerned that the potential of parking tickets deters people from going downtown.
Reprogramming the meters will cost $3,200, and the grace period could impact the city’s parking fine revenue.
