The timing was perfect.
After the last photo was taken, the sky opened up and 147 grads in their finery scattered to find shelter from the spring downpour.
The second Vernon Secondary School grad class of the new school was captured on the front steps before their graduation ceremony Friday at Kal Tire Place.
Teachers, students and family members milled around snapping photos as the grads joked, adjusted their tuxedos, hair and gowns – enjoying one of the last moments they will all be together before heading out into the world post high school.
Graduate Megan Prentice is trying to decide where she will be in the fall, either the University of B.C. or the University of Victoria.
“I’ll be leaving some friends behind but I will have the opportunity to make new ones as well,” said Prentice who reflects fondly on the teachers who helped her through her years at VSS.
“Mr. Keeley and Mr. Acob helped me not just with school but with life in general.”
Fellow graduate Kendall Tomiak is sad she won’t be seeing her friends everyday but is looking forward to life’s new challenges, including getting a degree in business.
“I’m looking forward to growing up, making money and supporting myself,” said Tomiak.
