Greater Victoria grew by more than 5,000 people between July 2017 and June 2018

Langford, Ladysmith and Tofino among the fastest growing communities in B.C.

The population of the Capital Regional District (CRD) grew by 5,173 between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018, according to B.C. Statistics.

Among larger municipalities in British Columbia with populations of at least 5,000 residents, Ladysmith and Langford led British Columbia with the largest relative increases with 3.6 per cent and 2.9 per cent, since July 1, 2017.

Among municipalities with populations fewer than 5,000 people, Tofino recorded one of the highest growths with 6.8 per cent. Only Radium Hot Springs (11.3 per cent) and Sun Peaks Mountain (nine per cent) grew faster than Tofino.

Looking at absolute figures, Surrey recorded the largest absolute increase in population, growing by 14,865 persons between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018.
