Grey tubs for glass recycling arriving across Chilliwack

Rinse and remove all food remnants from jars and bottles before placing them in the grey bins

The grey tubs for glass recycling are arriving at homes across Chilliwack.

It’s just in time for the start of glass recycling on April 1 for curbside customers, according to a City of Chilliwack notice that came in the mail.

Glass collection will be bi-weekly, the same interval as garbage pickup.

Grey bins are being delivered to homes between now and March 30, and replacement bins, or extra ones will be available at city hall for $4 each.

To fill the 27-litre grey bin, remove lids from clear and coloured glass items and place them in recycling blue bin. Place rinsed glass bottles and jars in the grey bin and put out on the curb for the first garbage day after April 1.

Citizen complaints led to council reinstating curbside glass recycling last year, in addition to the desire by city officials to avoid cross-contamination of recyclable materials if the glass breaks in transit.
